In a lot of content you will read that nutrition really is everything and that without it, you may as well take up painting or knitting! However, I am also a realist and respect that in this day and age money is more precious than ever, and it isn’t always easy to justify to your parents or partner why you are spending a completely disproportionate amount of money to ‘get big!’ Blowing the household budget on protein foods certainly won’t make you Mr. Popular in the house, so it pays to be economical. Therefore here are 3 recipes you can make with eggs, which are, well as cheap as ‘eggs’! Doesn’t have quite the same ring as ‘chips’ I know, but it may catch on one day don’t you think?
In the car world, a vehicle which is cheap to run is normally a little slow, and ones which cost a lot to run are normally higher in performance. You could say the same with protein rich foods, cheap options like ham are not great for your performance levels, but something like steak which costs a lot more is better for your performance. Eggs are however an exception to that rule, because they are an extremely high performing protein source yet they are relatively cheap! Therefore, it pays to know how to make eggs taste good!!
As a child hood memory eggy bread is one of my all time favourite foods! When I had just played football in the rain, the blisters on my feet were stinging and I felt drained I never appreciated anything more than a few slices of eggy bread with tomato ketchup! Role on 8 years and those days of enjoying foods like this with a clear conscious are gone, so I had to get creative and think of an alternative! Here is my new and improved ‘healthy’ eggy bread recipe!
4 slices of wholemeal bread
2 whole egg & 6 egg whites
½ chopped red onion
4 chopped cherry tomatoes
To prepare this takes about 2 minutes! Just get the eggs and egg whites into a mixing bowl, whisk them up, and then dip the slices of bread into the mix. Make sure that you use all of the mix because this gives you a nice 36g of protein! All you then have to do is drop the bread into a pan with 1 cal extra virgin olive oil spray, and this is when you chuck in the onion and tomatoes as well! This tasty snack brings you protein, carbohydrates and fats in abundance!
Omelettes are so nice, they are very filling and the fact that they can take a while to eat is a nice thing because when you are starving, there is nothing worse than eating everything on your plate in 2 minutes! However, I like to add a fruity twist to my omelettes for breakfast because you get the added benefit of the vitamins and antioxidants, not to mention the flavour!
1 whole egg & 10 egg whites
½ chopped banana
2 sliced strawberries
2 pineapple rings
This is such a scrumptious breakfast to kick start your day and it will sure be a great motivator to get your ass out of bed nice and early! To prepare simply add the oats, egg whites and egg into a mixing bowl and whisk up! Once you have thoroughly mixed the ingredients you can then add them into a pan, of course coated in 1 cal extra virgin olive oil spray. As the omelette begins to form, throw the blueberries, banana, pineapple and strawberries on to a hot pan for about 30-40 seconds just to ‘melt’ them slightly. Remove the fruit and wait until the omelette is cooked before scattering the fruit over the nicely browned omelette! This will taste sensational and it will be a welcome site I can assure you!
OK so you have seen in my videos the famous chocolate nut pancakes which I think taste pretty bloody good if I may say so myself!!! However, there is always room for improvement and there is also always scope to add to new ingredients and flavours. Here is my latest pancake meal which I absolutely love as a snack when the cravings within just won’t let me rest!
4 egg whites
2 scoops of vanilla protein (follow the link below and take your pick from MonsterSupplement's listed protein powders!!!)
1 tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter
This recipe is so easy to prepare and cook, making it the yummiest healthy sweet snack I know of! Simply add the egg whites, protein powder, oats and peanut butter into a blender and give it a really good blast! This ensures that the oats are fine so you have that smooth texture typical of a scotch pancake! Next, you want to get a frying pan absolutely sizzling hot and yes you guessed, coated with 1 cal extra virgin olive oil spray. As the pan is heating up, chuck in the raisins and stir them into the liquid mix before taking a ladle and picking out a small amount of mixture and carefully pouring it on to the sizzling hot pan. It should take about 30-40 seconds before each pancake is ready to flip! This mixture should deliver around 12-15 pancakes which is why I love it! The nutritional content of 12-15 pancakes equates to that of about one meal for a typical athlete, yet you could just eat 4-5 as a snack. Personally, because I am a greedy git I will happily sit and eat the lot! At least I am honest right!?
