PhD Smart Jack Review

PhD Nutrition have added to the Smart range yet again with the exciting new Smart Jack™ protein & oat flapjacks. I’m personally a huge fan of the original protein flapjacks by PhD so I was eager to try these new bars!
The Smart Jack bars are oven baked, with a soft, crumbly texture, as you’d expect from a flapjack. I was really impressed by the overall quality of the bars, I feared they may be slightly dry, but my fears were soon put to ease.

Personal Favourite.

The flavours

The three flavours we have been blessed with are Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Peanut and Triple Chocolate. I have tried all three flavours, with my personal favourite being the Blueberry Muffin, due to the sweet, yet not overpowering flavour. This is something I’d like to eat while drinking a flat white in a coffee shop. Overall I would give this flavour a 9/10.
The chocolate peanut was a really nice flavour too, again it was sweet, but not too much. I enjoyed the flavour more with each bite, and after eating the last crumb, I wanted more! I would give the chocolate peanut flavour an 8.5/10
My least favourite was the triple chocolate, which I found quite sickly. I would recommend this flavour to anybody with a sweet tooth! Despite this being my least favourite flavour, I still preferred it to rival products. I would rate the triple chocolate 6.9/10.

The Smart Jack bars are pretty low in calories compared to other high protein flapjack options, which is great for anybody living a healthy lifestyle or with weight loss goals. On average the bars contain around 225 calories.

Each 60g bar contains 15g of high quality protein, with added whey. This makes the Smart Jack a good option either side of a workout, during a hiking event or endurance challenge. Also a great snack to increase protein consumption during the day.

The bars have around 27g of carbohydrates, but boast less than 9g of sugar, which is really good when you take into account the great taste. The majority of the carbs are coming from oats, which are an incredibly healthy carb source. The rest of the carbs come from golden syrup and natural sugars.

Lastly the bars contain around 8g of fat, so all in all it’s a pretty good balance of the 3 macronutrients.

Overall Verdict

To summerise I would recommend these bars to anybody wanting to include great tasting, quality nutrition into their diets, without any added "nasties" that can be found in "junk food". The bars are a great option to enjoy with a coffee or cup of tea in a morning, and would be very handy for anybody that lives a hectic lifestyle. I don't have many negatives to point out, if I could change one thing, it would be to increase the size of the bars, but that's jsut me being greedy!
