Product of the Week: PhD Smart Protein

PhD have expanded their Smart range once again, this time with a protein powder product. The chocolate brownie and peanut butter options are reflective of their current flavour range for the smart bars, however lemon drizzle cake and salted caramel are welcome new additions!

So, what is it?

More than just your standard high protein drink, this product is designed for versatility. The protein is suitable for baking, making a protein pudding, and other recipes. PhD have plently of ideas available here to provide some inspiration!

The powder is a blend of primarily whey protein concentrate and oat flour, although it remains surprisingly low carb at just 4.1g per 30g serving. Other mentionable features are a generous 18g helping of protein and a low sugar content at just 0.6g.

Taste test

So far, I have tried the powders as a thick shake and mixed into oats. The nature of the powder means that there is no worry of it splitting or going ‘off’ when mixed into hot food which is great for me as ‘proats’ are my favourite way to consume a shake!

Surprisingly, the winning flavour for me was the lemon drizzle cake which I didn’t have the highest expectations for. The smell of this one is incredible, exactly like what it says on the packaging. Salted caramel was another winner. I found the salted part a lot more pronounced than in the Salted Caramel Diet Whey which, for me, just tastes sweet.

Peanut butter cup was tasty, but I personally prefer more of a peanut butter and less of a chocolate taste to anything in that particular flavour.

Currently £23.99 for 900g, a great introductory price for a product which will undoubtedly be in high demand! Get yours here.
