I found it really hard and was quiet anxious going to new classes on my own when I first started training, but think it's a great way for those wanting a good 45-60 min session who don't want to pay for one-on-one personal training.

I really like the Les Mils Body Pump classes and go every Friday morning before work for a great full-body workout.

Body pump is a weight-based class performed to music. It is designed to tone and shape your whole body, as well as increasing strength and endurance.

Everyone is able to use the weight they feel comfortable with and consists of a barbell, plates and step.

Classes can range from 40-60 minutes which all start with a warm up before working on a range of muscle groups with high reps (up to 100 reps per muscle group) with exercises including:

  • Squats
  • Chest Press
  • Deadrow
  • Clean and Press
  • Press Pullover Combo
  • Lunge
  • Reverse Curl

I think the best thing about Body Pump is the fact it's an all over workout and is claimed to burn 400-800 calories each class, which is great for those wanting to tone and shape as well as burn fat.

Another reason to love this class is because each track focuses on one muscle group at a time, allowing for that particular muscle group to be isolated and to work to fatigue or failure. This then in turn builds muscle, strengthens bones, and creates more muscle to burn more calories and fat.
