The squat is undoubtedly one of the best exercises you can perform for total body strength and muscle mass. It is the basis for all leg training and has been shown to develop size in all areas due to huge hormone response from big squatting.
Not only this but in the gym a man is judged on his squat. Most people will ask what do you bench, but proper lifters will want to know what you squat.
It is an exercise that many people neglect and many people are even frightened of doing. It should NOT under any circumstances be avoided. It should be the basis of most peoples weights routines.
One of the main reasons for people not doing it is that they do not know proper technique. It is a very tough lift to get the technique right so I don’t blame them. I would always recommend doing squats with a spotter to help you but here are some fantastic instructional videos to help you develop your squat technique:
