How much egg-ercise do you need to burn off your favourite chocolate this Easter?

There is no denying that Easter eggs are the nation’s favourite treats this holiday season. This year, data shows that 75% of Brits plan to celebrate Easter. On average, adults will spend around £25 each to commemorate this festive season, meaning Brits are set to spend approximately £810 million over Easter.

Despite being the most popular indulgence this spring, these sweet treats also come at a personal cost to our fitness regimes. Our favourite Easter eggs are exceptionally high in calories, helping you to pile on the pounds, and that’s before you’ve even tucked into your lamb dinner and hot cross buns!

Easter egg calories

We found that the average Brit will consume around 2,000 calories in Easter eggs alone over the bank holiday weekend. This means that 70 million Brits are likely to double the equivalent of their calorie consumption and consume almost 200 billion calories across the nation from Friday 2nd to Monday 5th April this year.

Here at Discount Supplements, we examined the top selection of the most popular Easter eggs, to find out which shell and filled chocolate eggs have the most calories.

Easter Egg Calorie Table

The smallest number of calories were in a Creme Egg, with the Cadbury Creme Egg possessing 177 calories. In the middle of the range sat the Cadbury Mini Eggs easter egg, as we found that the mini egg calories amounted to 1,170 calories – just over half of the recommended daily calorie intake for women.

At the other end of the spectrum, we found that the most calorific easter egg was the Cadbury's Extra Large Chopped Nut Egg, showcasing a whopping 2,977 calories. Whilst the small silver lining is that nuts are full of protein, this overly indulgent Easter egg contains almost 500 more calories than the daily recommended intake for men.

That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these little pleasures; it just means it will take a little work to make them worth it. With the right amount of exercise, you can burn off those Easter egg calories to make sure you still look and feel your best.

To figure out the amount of exercise you will need to work off your favourite chocolate, we looked into the number of calories that can be burned off by performing bunny hops! Bunny hops are a fantastic bodyweight and plyometric exercise that promotes coordination, mobility, and agility.

This full-body exercise burns lots of calories, as the average person will burn 8 calories per minute by hopping like Peter Rabbit. Using this information, we calculated just how long you would have to exercise for in order to compensate for your delicious Easter gifts.

How many calories do bunny hops burn?

Those that don’t want to spend their bank holiday exercising should stick to a Cadbury Creme Egg, which only needs 22 minutes of bunny hopping to compensate for the calories.

If you prefer to snack on a bunny compared to an egg, the Thornton’s Milk Chocolate Bunny takes approximately 135 minutes to burn off - that’s even longer than the movie Chocolat!

In comparison, the decadent Ferrero Rocher Easter Egg requires almost 3 hours and 45 minutes of bunny hops to work off 1,719 calories and the calorific Cadbury's Extra Large Chopped Nut Egg needs almost 6 hours of jumping like a rabbit to erase its colossal damage.

Unless you want to spend a good portion of your Easter Sunday leaping around your living room, sticking to the smallest treats may be the best option for you.

Easter Egg Alternatives

For those that are dedicated to their fitness regimes and maintaining their physique, the thought of cracking open that chocolate shell may provide just too much of a temptation to stay on track.

To avoid the Cadbury Easter egg calories, a fantastic alternative is to indulge in a creamy chocolate protein shake. The decadent Belgian chocolate flavour of the PhD Nutrition Diet Plant protein powder range only contains 92 calories per 25g serving, which would only require 12 minutes of bunny hops.

Protein snacks and meal replacement drinks are known to build and tone muscle whilst supporting weight loss, without providing your body with unnecessary added sugar and carbohydrates, making them the perfect low-calorie treat this Easter!
