Coleus Forskohlii (Standardized for Forskolin) produces its effects by modulating one of the most widely recognized intercellular messenger systems in the body, adenyl cyclase, which converts directly to cAMP (cyclic AMP). cAMP enhances the action of epinephrine on glycogen stores in the liver and muscle cells and enhances the action of the enzyme lipase which breaks down fatty acids. Additional pharmacological benefits of Coleus include bronchodilation of lung tissue and strengthening the contraction of cardiac muscle. Both of these effects lead to an increased oxygen intake and availability. Increasing the available oxygen allows the body to break down more fats and carbohydrates for energy which will lead to some wonderful benefits during any physical activity or for weight loss. Raspberry Ketones are the aromatic compounds in red raspberries and have a powerful metabolic effect. Though they are structurally similar to synephrine and capsaicin, raspberry ketones work differently. Synephrine stimulates the beta-3 receptors (beta agonist) where raspberry ketones work by increasing norepinephrine induced lipolysis through their effect on HSL. Studies show that this is due to raspberry ketones’ ability to influence the enzyme HSL (hormone-sensitive lipase) to relocate (translocate from cytosol) into the fat cell breaking lipid droplets down into fatty acids in preparation of fat metabolization.  More HSL equals more lypolysis! Studies also indicate that raspberry ketones may prevent fat synthesis as well as prevent large increases in serum triglyceride levels after a high fat meal.
Theobromine is the naturally occurring “feel good” alkaloid found most concentrated in the cocoa bean. Unlike caffeine, theobromine has three methyl groups instead of two (no it’s not liver toxic), and the presence of the third methyl group slows the rate in which theobromine is metabolized and cleared from the body making theobromine is a longer acting methylxanthine compound than caffeine. Although theobromine is related to caffeine and exerts similar effects, theobromine does not stimulate the central nervous system. It instead induces muscular relaxation of the smooth muscle tissue.
