Do You Eat Your Greens?
I have to confess I’m probably guilty of not eating enough greens, as a kid I hated them, and now I’m studying nutrition and serious about fitness I somewhat begrudgingly force them into my diet.
I’ve learnt that when basing your diet around macros of Fats/Protein/Carbs it’s really important not to overlook the necessity of greens not only for dietary fibre but the detoxifying nutrients they contain. My pre-competition diet may be fairly bland but I still want to make sure I’m getting plenty of nutrients.
PhD woman Greens & Berries is a great way of getting extra vitamins, minerals & fibre into your diet. It’s packed full of great extracts from fruit, veg and herbs. The primary ingredient is Spirulina, a natural algae super rich in protein & amino acids including GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid).
GLA when taken with other Omega-3 supplements has amazing anti-inflammatory properties so is great for muscle recovery. Along with many other added vitamins and minerals it’s really detoxifying so great if you’re feeling tired or run down and plenty of B vitamins will boost your energy levels. I’ve been replacing my morning coffee with this for the last week and I have to say it really has given my days a healthy kick start.
Unlike a lot of other greens products on the market this one actually doesn’t taste too bad. The natural sweetness from the berry extracts masks the earthy taste from the other ingredients, and that’s just if you mix it with water. I bet its great mixed with juice or a smoothie, however I’m not allowed these in my pre-comp diet (5 weeks to go).
