A word from the Editor –
Zane is a fantastic female fitness enthusiast with a lot of experience!! She knows what it takes as a lady to get into GREAT shape and stay motivated. Our female readers can take great motivation and wisdom from Zane!
1 - What is your background?
I have been working as a personal trainer for just over a year, recruiting clients and working with them to obtain their goals and maintain motivation. I have a proven track record in retaining clients on a long-term basis with solid results. I started as Fitness Instructor and have experience in ETM, circuit training, body conditioning and spinning since 2005, qualified as Gym instructor in 2008 and then as a Personal Trainer 14 months ago. I am fairly new to personal training but have a solid knowledge of anatomy and exercise physiology. I am always willing to improve and fulfil my knowledge as there are always things to learn. .
2 - What is your stance on good nutrition?
I believe that to achieve and sustain a lean and healthy physique, you have to find what works best for you and your client as there are people with different body types, metabolic rates and health problems or hormonal response to different food sources , exercise etc. So for me it’s all about balance, right timing and variety of food sources to gain optimal nutrient uptake to stay healthy, fit and still enjoy youself. It’s definitely a lifestyle.
3 - What motivates you to live this lifestyle?
I love strength training. I strongly believe that a trainer should be a role model to their clients in terms of training, eating and lifestyle choice to help them reach their goals. This is my biggest motivation- to see how my clients and myself progress, see them get more confident and fall in love with training, good nutrition and most importantly they start to like what they see in the mirror and in return gain more confidence and improves everything in their life, from career to personal life.
4 - What are your top pieces of advice for our customers looking to shape up and get healthy?
Patience- slow progress is progress. You can’t out train a bad diet, if you are looking to improve your body composition. Don’t look at other people’s progress, but concentrate on yourself, as everyone is different. Be ready to work hard and you will see results. Their health should come above everything else. If there are health issues, they will most likely slow down their fat loss goals. Any issues need to be addressed and solved first.
5 - What do you hope to give to our customers from your content on FitMag?
I am willing to continuously send messages out to women about weight raining benefits, not be scared to lift weights and drink a protein shake!! I still think there is big preconception that this will make them look bulky and manly. This still needs to be pushed. We’re getting there, but there is still a long way to go when you look at the teenage or girls in their early 20, they still seem to think that starving and doing hours of cardio will get them lean and a slim physique. It’s not all about size 0 and losing weight.
