Adam Gethin's Tip of the Week!

Can you believe it is just 2 weeks until Christmas? Crazy I know. So there is very little point in me giving you a tip which has anything to do with sustaining something for more than 2 weeks I imagine? In that case I will give you a general tip which you can utilise all year round.

Before every upper body workout, whether it is arm training, back, chest or shoulders be sure to warm up your shoulder joints!

As many of you will know, I have and do suffer from an injured rotor cuff and this was because I didn't pay enough attention to the importance of warming up properly as a beginner!

What would I define as a proper warm up? Spending at least 10 minutes warming up the joint with very light dumbbell exercises, pumping blood into the joint and stretching out the connective tissue.

Will you really listen to this is the question? I don't know is the answer. However, let me leave you with a brief story which should make you at least consider it.

A friend of mine, who is extremely exeperienced in the gym, eats perfectly and warms up plenty suffered a terrible rotor cuff injury last week! He was bench pressing 170kg which isn't out of the ordinary for him, when it just went 'SNAP!!!!' and now he will be out of action for some time. He cannot even lift a fork to his mouth, change gear in the car or scratch his nose. Don't think warming up is important, then think again! This friend of mine is a genetic freak, he squats 7 plates a side for fun so he biomechanics can handle weight, yet they still went on this occassion. So what makes you feel you don't need to warm up?
