We have not had very nice summer weather in London this year, in fact we have only seen the sun for a few days! So these are the days when you should enjoy the sun before the winter arrives! Let’s change indoor cardio for a fun and effective outdoor bodyweight circuit workout. Outside we can do really hard fat burning workouts and at the same time get some sun shine. I don’t know about you but for me it makes a big difference! My energy levels improve, probably because the gym I go to is underground away from the daylight and I spend many hours there teaching clients and as well as exercising myself. I think that outdoor training provides a nice alternative and helps with your motivation.
So what I normally do outside the gym is circuit type training and sprinting. To get a good warm up I run to the park which takes me about 15 minutes. In the park I find a place where there is a bench so it is relatively easy to do some dips, push ups, step ups etc. Normally I have six to seven exercises I do back to back without rest. I then repeat this four times!
There are hundreds of bodyweight exercises you can choose from but I find the best ones for lower body are body weight squats, walking lunges, step up to the bench and one leg squats. For upper body I like press ups, decline press ups, dips and pull ups if it is possible to do them. For the whole body some great exercises include burpees and various plyometric jumps. Normally the last exercise of the circuit I do is skipping for a 100 meter sprint. After this, I rest a few minutes and start from the beginning again!
Circuit workouts hit every major muscle group and it only takes 30 minutes and everything can be done without much equipment. This is a really good option if you are travelling a lot. It is always possible to have a great workout where ever you are, so there are no excuses anymore!!!In fact, I was doing circuits on the beach on my holiday...But have to say in 40 degrees heat I don’t recommend it! It might have been a better idea to train in my air conditioned hotel room; I was just a little bit too excited with the sun shining in Turkey! Obviously this was because of the London weather and the fact I wanted to stay outside as much as possible.
Personally, I can never go without exercising more than two days so I always find the time, place and way to do it no matter what happens!!! With this outdoor circuit training you can too!
