Sam Hill is a 19 year old guy with an immense passion for training, nutrition and supplementation! In some respects I see Sam in the same light as myself when I first started out, very hungry, determined and willing to commit! Alot of you guys will be in Sam's position which is why I feel it is vital you learn from somebody relevant to you! Take it away Sam!

The gym can be an intimidating place, full of butch bodybuilders with veins as thick as your forearms! It can sometimes be easy to simply ‘hide’ in the cardio area or on a machine that is tucked out of the way or to opt out altogether.
But it does not have to be this way! Firstly, everyone was a beginner at some stage so most people will understand if you ask politely for advice and not laugh when you are lifting a fraction of the guy next to you. If you take the time to get to know the ‘regulars’ at your gym, then not only will you benefit from their experience, but you will have made new friends who are likely to make you look forward to the gym even more.
Becoming a member of your gym’s ‘community’ can be rewarding for the reasons mentioned, but it can also make you able to offer advice to future newcomers due to the knowledge that you can pass on, thus escalating the social aspect of training.
It’s important to remember that training is a hobby and if done properly, a lifestyle, so it surely makes sense to get the most out of it as you can by interacting and learning from like-minded individuals. I firmly believe that you can get more enjoyment and productivity out of gym going if you are willing to take the time to get to know the other ‘gym bunnies’ and by following correct gym etiquette, you will make friends fast.
Finally, if your gym feels daunting or does not have the atmosphere which you seek, then I strongly recommend joining a new one. Feeling welcome and comfortable whilst training is very important and this should not be sacrificed for the sake of a few miles of travelling.
